Statement on Passage of Clean and Reliable Grid Affordability (CRGA) Act

Elevate is proud to celebrate the passage of CRGA, which will help modernize Illinois’ electrical grid and expand access to battery storage, community solar, and energy efficiency programs.

Springfield, IL – Hardworking people across Illinois will now have more access to affordable energy, thanks to the passage of the Clean and Reliable Grid Affordability (CRGA) Act (SB25). Elevate, a nonprofit organization that works to create access to clean energy solutions, is proud to celebrate this significant step towards a more affordable and resilient energy future for Illinois.

This legislation will help modernize the state’s electric grid while expanding access to battery storage, community solar, and energy efficiency programs, and will help families and small businesses lower their energy costs. These measures will put Illinois at the forefront of clean energy, moving communities closer to achieving its energy goals.

“The passage of CRGA is a step in the right direction. Through collective action and Illinois’ leadership, CRGA will have a positive impact not only on our electric grid, but in the pockets of working families and small business owners, all while advancing practical, community-centered energy solutions,” said Dr. Anne Evens, CEO of Elevate. “By investing in improved infrastructure that supports clean, reliable, and affordable energy, this law ensures that the benefits of the clean energy transition reach households and communities across the state, particularly those most affected by high energy costs.”

The passage of the CRGA Act builds on the Clean and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA)’s benefits and manages new power demands. CRGA will keep families’ energy costs low and ensure market stability, strengthen our grid, and protect our communities. Elevate recognizes the tireless work of the Illinois Clean Jobs Coalition, community leaders, policymakers, and partners who came together with a shared vision for a better energy future. By investing in people and working in partnership, these groups have helped pave the way for a more just, affordable, and sustainable energy system. This achievement is a commitment to future generations.
